Spring...where are you?
Spring Break week is coming to a close and the campus is finally starting to hop with students. This weekend our Comet Athletic Club is hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, which will be great to get communities around the Red River Valley on campus. Twenty-four teams will be here for a fun-filled basketball Saturday. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and actually bring spring temperatures 'cause the frigid air is starting to get a bit old. Seems as though the weeks just keep on cruising. Only two more months of school left and then it is summer...craziness! Oh and Daylight Savings on Sunday...SPRING forward an hour! Don't forget!

There is a lot going on this week, we have all sorts of Welcome Back week activities like a movie, comedian, karaoke and game night! It is great seeing everyone again! Hope the New Year goes well!

1 MORE WEEK!!!!
I am not really sure where the semester went but its gone. Finals start next week, I am lucky that I don't have any final test this time around but I have a bunch of projects and binders to complete! So, looks like a weekend of HOMEWORK!!!! We had a small snow storm here yesterday and the ground is now covered in a beautiful blanket of white. Lots of people have been going over to the sledding hill for some winter activities. I hope to get there this week or next. Our 4th grade field experience ends tomorrow. We are having a small party for them after they complete there tests. I am going to miss those kids and hope they have had as much fun as I have. If nothing else I sure did learn a lot!!

Hello!
Turkey day is upon us!!!!!!! HURRAY!!! Vacations are always GREAT!! I can't get over how nice the weather has been. It is the middle of November and I am still able to run outside! Love it. We had a bunch of prospective students on-campus last week. We got to take the students out for Pizza, went to the play, and ended the night with cosmic bowling! The play was wonderful. I think I laughed the whole time. It was fun to watch the students in character. On saturday we got to go behind the scenes of the play and check out the set. We also got to meet with a few of the cast members. I had a good time, and I hope the students did too. I think they got a bit sick of the name games I wanted everyone to play, but they really got to know each other well. (I think they secretly liked it!) Let me know if any of you want to come visit us and check out Mayville State. It's a pretty good time!

SNOW!
Well, we woke up with some snow on the ground and some very cold weather! But, I guess we should expect that. I have been spending most of my time doing homework the last few weeks. End of the year projects and my Blocks I 4th Grade Field experience have been keeping me very busy! I am looking forward to a LONG weekend! And hoping for a chance to get caught up! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Its getting to be that crazy time of the semester again. As part of Blocks II in Elementary Education we spend five weeks in an internship. We are in full swing of that right now and things are going quite well. Final projects are also starting to pile up on top of that. I'm looking forward to having a nice break to catch up on everything.

i think winter is here....
Well, I would love to say that it is COLD outside (becuase really i think it is). However, my science teacher says that we are not to say its cold out until we hit ABSOLUTE ZERO which is -495 degrees Fahrenheit or -273 degrees Celsius. So, until that time I will just say that winter is here...and we should get our winter jackets out! Fall sports are just about done. Football finished with a win at home, GOOD JOB BOYS! Volleyball is just about over, GOOD LUCK GIRLS! Basketball seasons have started, so if you are in the area come check out the Comet Men's and Women's Basketball teams! We only have 5 weeks left of school until finals! I am not sure where the semester has gone, but the Holiday break will be here soon! My classes are getting very busy with final projects. We start our 4th Grade Experience in about a week! I am very excited and nervous! But, I have class at 4 so I should probably gather my stuff and start walking!

Over the weekend, Mayville won their last football game! That was pretty exciting. It was a great game to be at. It is starting to get cold and windy here. Winter is on his way. It has been raining a bit, and it is supposed to turn into snow. Winter is always fun... for the first two weeks!Winter does bring sledding, snow ball fights, AND SNOW DAYS! Classes Canceled! We have a basket ball game tonight. Hopefully we will win. I will for sure be there to cheer the team on!

Sunny Weather
Last night was our third student teaching seminar and the highlight of the night was finding out our placements. Mayville State has a partnership with a school district in Houston, Texas that accepts student teachers from here and around the United States to do their clincal experience in their schools. Starting in January, I am taking that opportunity and will begin my student teaching in the Aldine School District in Houston, Tx. I am so excited for this wonderful challenge yet nervous at the same time. It will be quite a change from the school systems I am used to around here so it will definately be a wonderful learning experience for me. Another perk will be skipping out of the cold North Dakota winters for a little bit of Texas heat!

rain rain go away....
Well, I am pretty sure that it has rained here EVERY DAY THIS WEEK! I am pretty much sick of it. But glad it is Thursday and the week is almost over! Next week in my classes we will be teaching a space science lesson to the students at Peter Boe Jr. Elementary School in Mayville. The field experience opportunites at Mayville State are great and will really help when it comes time for me to be out in my own classroom! We have our last home volleyball games this weekend and mens and women's basketball is starting up. Comet football will be out in Dickinson this weekend...lots going on and lots to cheer about! Good Luck this weekend Comets!!!

Hey Sarah. I am a senior in High school right now and I was just wondering what made you decide to go to college at Mayille State? I'm WAY undecided about what I"m doing and where I want to go. I need some insight. Thanks
   Answer:
Hi Tammy! Deciding where to go to college is so difficult! It wasn't until I visited Mayville State that I knew this was the right place for me. I really loved the way their education program was set up and the personal service and attention I got when I came on campus. If you are unsure of what you would like to major in, Mayville State is a great place to start out. You can get your generals taken care of at a college where you will never sit in a lecutre hall with 300 others! I really hope this helps you! If you would like to visit Mayville State please call us at 1-800-437-4104 ext 34842. Also, if you have other questions let me know!

Hey, I was looking through the pictures on the student life page and I noticed there were cheerleaders. I didn't think that Mayville State had any cheerleaders and I was wondering if thats a new activity added this year or if thats a different squad from a highschool and it was a picture taken during a basketball tournament that is normally held at Mayville State? I'm transferring here next semester and was a cheerleader in high school so I was wondering if that was available for me to look in to or not?
   Answer:
Hi Brittany! We do not currently have a cheer squad at Mayville State; however, there is a lot of interest in starting the squad back up. I think that it is something that will start again over the next couple of years. When you get here next semester you should come talk to me and I can help get you in contact with a group of girls who are interested in getting the squad going again.

FINALLY Thursday!
Wow, I didn't think this week would ever end!! I have been really lucky this week that I have not had a lot of homework, however I don't think that will be the case forever:(. This week I got to give my first campus tour of the year. It was nice to meet the prospect student and her family! They were both very nice and I hope she will join us in the fall! This weekend I am planning on attending the Mayville State vs. Valley City HOME football game! It should be exciting. It would be great to see another Comet football win! Other than that the weekend is going to be spent relaxing! I can't wait! Well, I have a quick assignment to do so I should probably get that finished. Until next time! Later!

Fall and students go hand in hand -- hopefully there are seniors considering their future by now. Do you have some campus tours lined up within the next couple of weeks?
   Answer:
Hi Sheri, we just had "October Visit Days" on the 18th and 19th. We had 45 students on campus over these two days, so it was GREAT! Enrollment Services will be hosting "Join The Club" days on November 16-17. This will be an opportunity for students to see all the different student organizations that Mayville State has to offer. We are going to have fun workshops, see MSU Theater Department's production of "The Music Man", go bowling, and lots more. I'm really excited about it!

Planning of HS visits
Hello there! This week thus far has been rather long, but a relief all at the same time. I have spent quite a bit of time planning out my high school visits schedule to be occurring for the next month and a half. The week has been long due to the countless phone calls made and the tedious process of scheduling all of the 62 high schools I am assigned to visit. It will be nice to get out on the open road again next week and chat with prospective Mayville State students! I love that part! It is exciting to see the backgrounds of each person and share a little bit of mine as well. For those of you whom have any questions or know that I will be coming to visit your high school, stop by and say hello and ask me any questions that you have about Mayville State University! I look forward to visiting with you!

it feels like fall today!
After a SUPER nice weekend it is feeling very cold outside today! I can tell that winter is going to be here soon, and am both happy and sad. I'm excited to particpate in winter activities such as skiing, skating and sledding. But, I love summer and am going to miss spending time at the lake! We had farmer's bowl and preview day over the weekend, both went very well. Thank you to all the HS students that came and visited the MSU. I hope you had a wonderful time. If you would like to visit the college make sure to let us know! The parade, corn and hot dog feed, football game and volleyball game were also a lot of fun! GOOD JOB COMETS! Well, I have a test at 4, so I should look over my notes! Have a good week!

Last week for ND College Fairs
Hello everyone! So I have made it through the first two weeks of college fairs located throughout North Dakota. I think that with all my travels, I have become a professional map reader ;) It has been great getting to see the great state of North Dakota and see all the different terrains that the state has. I do now see how we are located in the Red River Valley and have become excited about North Dakota more than I could have ever imagined. The recruiting trail is a long one, but I really enjoy getting to meet all the HS students and the other recruiters that are out on the road with me. Welp, this next week I am sure is going to fly by and then it will be time to get all my upcoming HS visits all scheduled and then it is back on the road again....Yay for Mayville State University!!

Well i was wondering if you could get your degree where you can counseline teenage girls who have depression or just simple thinks wrong. I went through alot of that stuff from age 9 - 15 and i also went through alot of counseling which really happened me alot. I am now 17 years old and once in while i will go to a counselor but other than that i am great on my own. Thanks hope you can help me answer my question.
   Answer:
YES! We have an Applied Psychology degree that would prepare you for a Graduate degree in Counseling. Individuals who are looking to go into the counseling profession must complete four years of undergraduate work and two more additional years in a Masters program. It takes a lot of work, but if it’s something you want to do, the time will be well spent! Go for it!

We have Farmer's Bowl football game, corn and hot dog feed and auction! It should be a lot of fun. Along with all of that stuff, we have our fall preview day. I will be working at the welcome desk in the morning and talking on Y94 radio station during the corn and hot dog feed. I am really excited for all the events! I should probably do some homework so that I am able to attend these events. I have a BIG test next Tuesday along with a bunch of assignment due! Maybe we will see some of you this weekend!

For the past two weeks instead of going to class, myself and the rest of my classmates have been teaching the Northwood students in the school slightly renevated for them. It was a excellent learning experience to have prior to student teaching. Congratulations to MSU Football team for the exciting triple overtime win this past weekend.

Whata week!!
This past week was LONG! (Notice the CAPS Lock!) LONG!

Class has been kinda tough. Homework Homework Homework!!!I have joined a lot of organizations this year. You name it, I am in it. Well, not the science club. I guess chemicals and numbers are not my thing. I went to the Mayville Theatre, the Delchar, this weekend. The folkes on the screen sound like they are on helium, but hey... It's only five bucks!!! I got a pretty strong urge for pizza at 3 in the morning on Saturday, so I took a 2 mile journey to Cenex. CENEX GOT RID OF THE PIZZA COOKER!!! I had to settle for pizza rolls in the microwave. They were not the same, but it sure satisfied my cravin'!

Sunday was homework day. Well, it was supposed to be anyway. Darn MSN kept distracting me!!! I had three papers to write, and I only got one of them done. I had to wake up this mornin' at 8 to finish that mess!!! I don't know about you folkes, but 8 is EARLY. (once again, notice the CAPS!)

Yeah well, class starts in 30 minutes. I suppose I should get ready. Ya'll have yourself a dandy ol' day!

Hello everyone! I hope you find this new blog site fun and informative. I think it is a great idea and I am excited to see how well it goes. At the moment my brain is not in function mode because I fear it might be frozen considering how cold it is right now. I was on the search to find a space heater for the office but that was unsuccessful. It is not suppose to be this cold yet!! Hopefully it warms up this afternoon because I will be taking the students I am teaching on a nature walk to find some objects for our art project. Today will be my last day of working with the students so I hope for a fun time.

Only one more day of teaching this week! I taught my second to last nature trail lesson this morning! We got observed today so I really hope that I did well! We are teaching out there again on Thursday and then we are done. The Northwood experience is also over and what an AMAZING time we had. It is funny how quickly you become attached to the students. I had a lot of fun with them and will miss them a lot. I hope that we are able to set up more field experiences with the school. Well, thats about all I have for now. September Already?!?!?!
Well, I can't believe that September is already here. There has been so much going on this semester that time is really flying! I am in the education Block I classes this semester and we started the Nature Trail field experience today. This is when 4th, 5th and 6th graders from area schools come to the Nature Trail in Mayville and we teach different lessons. I was so nervous when I woke up this morning but it all went great and the kids said they had a lot of fun. I can't wait to do it again on Thursday! We are also helping out with the Northwood school as they attend classes in Portland for a couple of weeks. We are going to be teaching music, math and science. I am excited for this great opportunity also and will let you know how it goes! It's going to be a busy weeks so I better get some homework done!

week # 2!!!
Week two has been pretty good so far. It is really nice that class does not start until noon. I need my rest to function. My classes are pretty small this semester. My smallest being 4 and my largest being 15. Thank God I have Facebook to get me through my day! I have got to get up on all of the Mayville gossip! I have a student senate meeing tonight at 9. We are discussing some pretty intense stuff. I would tell you, but then I would have to kill you! (I am kidding. It is not a death threat.) I have class at 5 tonight, and I have not started my homework yet. I suppose I should get on that!

I was just pondering the fact... How great it was at Mayville State, and how much I miss the helping staff and faculty. As a previous student at MSU, I just wanted to let the world know that if you are a student looking for personal attention and people who truly "do care" about the student's well being then... this school is the right choice for you! Also, if you do decide that this is the school for you, (which it probably is..) make sure to meet the "infamous" Clayton Reed Dodson! He is a celebrity on campus ;) I still bleed blue for the Comets =) Miss you Julia Jill and Lindsay! My question is seriously... "Clay, how long can you stay in the hand-stand position, before all the blood rushes to you cerebral cortex?" ---Love ya Charlotte
   Answer:
HA HA HA!!!! Char, Char, Char! Those biology majors are crazy! As an English Major, I would like to let Charlotte know that "before" is not a conjunction. Therefor, you do not need a comma after it. Charlotte is right though. If you want to be at a place where everyone knows not only your face but your name, Mayville is the place to be. Even the community members know college students. Mayville, the town, is a huge family. I have so many moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and close friends in this small town. We all miss ya Char! We really do!

Onto week #2
It seems as though we have all survived the craziness that the first week of classes can entail. I have had fun seeing all the new faces on campus as well as the returning students and look forward to the year ahead. I came upon this quote that I thought it was good and had to do with life and stepping out. "Life is a series of experiences, each of which makes us bigger, even though it is hard to realize this." -Henry Ford-

All is well in the office. Orientation week is officially over :(. This means it is back to reality for me and back to recruiting. We have a football game this Thursday against Crookston. I'm pretty pumped! We have some new guys in this year and the team is looking pretty good. I love football season. The weather, the game, the atmosphere...... It just gives me a happy feeling!

Did you see the great article about your quarterback, Hagen, in the Forum on Sunday? It was a really good article about him and his family!
   Answer:
Yeah!! Pretty cool! I was happy to see that the Comets got some good coverage in the news. Dustin is a great guy and he totally deserves the fan fare. Dustin has sacrificed a lot for the team this year and it is nice to see him get some acknowledgemnt for that.

question:Julia, did Adam Roland get a teaching/coaching position somewhere? comment:I prefer your hair color now than last spring!!!
   Answer:
Yeah. Adam took a job in Evansville MN. He is teaching 7-12grade Science classes and is coaching JV football. I am staying around here and crossing my fingers that Adam can get a job closer to Mayville next year! I'm back to my old self with my hair color. It fits me better!

Mitch is already enjoying his new duties as an ambassador for MSU -- good for him to meet more students -- a person always gains in giving of oneself to others.
   Answer:
Oh I wish that was the way that everyone felt. I wouldn't have to try and motivate students in all different kinds of ways.

   From: Sheri
Please check your email ASAP - thanks! You are a class act -- touching students lives daily.
   Answer:
You are too sweet Sheri. We are really excited to have Mitch on our Student Ambassador Team. I hope he will like it. We have the Ambassadors help out with a lot of things around campus. Hopefully he doesn't get sick of us.

Preview Day is Coming Soon!
I am really excited about this year's Fall Preview Day on September 22nd. This is also the Farmer's Bowl celebration so there will be tons of cool stuff going on. This year we will have a hayride to the parade, the Y94 DJ broadcasting live from Jerome Berg field, the corn and hotdog feed, and, of course, COMET FOOTBALL! Want to know more about Preview Day? Just ask me!

The new year, of course, brings a hectic pace to college students, faculty and staff, and coaches of athletic programs. My advice, as an alumnus of Mayville State, former athlete, and current coach of two sports, is to get involved with activities in which you are interested, but make sure you don't overload your schedule. Be sure to set limits, but enjoy the college atmosphere. There is a lot more to do at Mayville State than most students think. For a small college, there is something for nearly everyone.

If you guys would like me to get involved in the Blogging, I would love to help out! Great idea, can we send out an e-mail to inform the students of this opportunity to seek info on Mayville Life?
   Answer:
Hey Coach! Yes we are just getting going with the new Comet Blog, but let's start spreading the word!
