Take Advantage of the Many Opportunities Available to You at Mayville State

Fall is a very busy time at Mayville State University. A new semester begins, and along with that, a flurry of activity unfolds.

The office of the MSU Foundation is at the center of much of what happens each fall. Over the last short while, the MSU Foundation has sponsored a number of fund-raising and friend-raising events, including the Comet Athletic Club Sportsmen’s Raffle, Farmers Bowl, Homecoming festivities, a brunch to honor scholarship recipients, and a social for alumni and friends. In addition, there are the ongoing activities of membership drives and the day-to-day processing of gifts and donations. These are all very important functions that play a major role in the success of Mayville State University and its students.

If you’ve attended any of the fall events or stopped by the office, you may have met Philip Knutson. One of the newest members of the Mayville State family, Phil is the development associate with the MSU Foundation. We are fortunate to have had Phil join our team, assisting in keeping things moving along in the Foundation. Phil began his work with the MSU Foundation late last May. Over the summer he has spent a lot of time learning how the financial aspects of the Foundation work. Since the majority of his job duties are devoted to record-keeping and taking care of the finances, it is important that he has a good understanding of what is needed.

A smaller portion, but very important part, of Phil’s job is committed to development, or fostering relationships that will lead to support for Mayville State University. Phil has had the opportunity to take part in a number of the MSU Foundation-sponsored events during the last few months and has met a number of people. He is anxious to meet as many Mayville State alumni and friends as possible, as well as to develop relationships with new friends.

Knutson is a native of Wahpeton, N.D. He holds associate degrees in Banking and Financial Services and Consumer and Commercial Finance from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. He earned a Bachelor of General Studies degree with concentrations in Finance, Business, Management, and Entrepreneurship from the University of North Dakota in 2006. He has experience in the financial services industry, as well as in retail management.

Phil and his wife Heather have recently moved to Mayville. They hope to be living in their new home in the Riverwood Addition sometime around the first of the year. Please stop by the Foundation office and meet Phil any time, or if you see him out and around or at a Mayville State function, please be sure to introduce yourself. He’ll enjoy making a new connection, and so will you.

While many events and activities for 2009-2010 have already passed, there are many more to which you can look forward in just the next couple of months. The volleyball and football team seasons are just winding down, but the first home men’s and women’s basketball games have just taken place this week, and there are many games ahead. In addition performances of the MSU Theatre’s production of “A Doll’s House” are scheduled for November 19-22.

Mark your calendar. The MSU Music Department will be holding their biennial madrigal feast. Performances and feasts will be held on Friday, December 11, and Saturday, December 12. The music department has a Christmas concert scheduled for Sunday, December 6.The Aviv String Quartet will be featured in the next MSU and Community Fine Arts Series Concert at 7:30 p.m. on November 20. Don’t forget about the daily opportunities to use the MSU Swimming Pool and Wellness Center.
